Commercial Pet Photography
Pet product photography is a niche that requires something most commercial photographers can’t offer: the ability to work with animals on set. Getting a dog to interact naturally with a product — to look at it, engage with it, respond to it — while simultaneously managing lighting, composition, and a client brief is a specific skill set that sits at the intersection of commercial photography and professional animal handling.
It’s what we do at Pupparazzi alongside our portrait work. If you’re a pet brand, product manufacturer, retailer, or agency working in the pet industry, this page is for you.
Who We Work With
We work with pet businesses of all sizes — from independent startups launching their first product through to established national retailers running seasonal campaigns across multiple channels.
Our commercial clients have included Petstock, one of Australia’s largest pet retail groups, for whom we’ve delivered seasonal campaign photography, dog food product and packaging photography, and imagery for their in-store veterinary business. That breadth of work — from lifestyle campaign content through to clinical vet services — reflects the range of what commercial pet photography actually covers when you’re working with a serious pet industry operator.
We’ve also worked with independent pet food producers, treat manufacturers, groomers, pet accessory brands, and event organisers across Melbourne and nationally.
What We Deliver
Seasonal campaign photography. Retail campaigns — Christmas, Easter, winter, spring — need fresh imagery every cycle. We produce campaign content that works across digital, print, in-store, and social channels, built around a creative brief that reflects your brand and the season without resorting to generic stock imagery.
Product and packaging photography. Whether it’s a new product launch, an e-commerce listing update, or packaging artwork that needs a hero image, we produce clean, well-lit product photography that works at any scale. We can shoot product alone or with animals interacting — often the most compelling product images are the ones that show genuine engagement rather than a static prop shot.
Brand and lifestyle photography. Broader visual content that builds emotional connection with your audience — dogs and cats in environments that reflect your brand values, active or relaxed, social or intimate. The kind of photography that makes pet owners feel understood.
Veterinary and pet services photography. Clinical and professional environments present their own photographic challenges. We’ve shot for Petstock’s in-store vet business and understand how to produce imagery that feels warm and reassuring rather than cold and institutional — which matters enormously when the audience is a pet owner bringing in an animal they love.
Ongoing content production. Brands that need a regular supply of fresh imagery — for social media, seasonal campaigns, new product launches — can work with us on a retained basis. Consistent quality across a planned content calendar rather than scrambling for imagery at the last minute.
Event and activation photography. The Dog Lovers Show, pet industry trade events, in-store activations, product launches — we cover pet industry events with the same professionalism we bring to the studio, and we produce content from the day that’s actually usable.
The Difference Experience Makes
The pet industry in Australia is worth over $15 billion annually and the brands winning in that market share a common characteristic: their photography looks like it was made by people who genuinely understand animals.
Phone camera product shots, stock images, and poorly lit flat lays are immediately visible to pet owners — a fiercely loyal and authentically engaged audience with a finely tuned radar for the real versus the manufactured. The difference between photography that converts and photography that doesn’t is often simply whether the animals in it look genuinely happy, comfortable, and at ease.
That’s not something you can achieve in post-production. It comes from working with a photographer who knows how to create the right environment on set for animals to be themselves — and who has the patience, the technical skill, and the animal-handling experience to capture the moment when it happens.
A dog who genuinely loves a treat looks completely different on camera from a dog who’s been placed near one for a photo. Pet owners know which is which immediately. Your photography should be the former, every time.
Our Approach
Every commercial project starts with a conversation about your brief — what the photography needs to achieve, where it will appear, what your brand looks and feels like, and what practical constraints exist around the shoot.
We’re flexible in how we work. Some clients come with a fully developed creative brief and need execution. Others come with a product and a rough idea and want us to develop the visual approach. We can work either way and everything in between.
Locations: we shoot in studio, on location, in retail environments, and outdoors depending on what the brief requires. Melbourne and surrounds for most projects, nationally for the right brief.
Animals: clients can bring their own animals, we can source dogs and cats through our network, or we can work with a combination. We’re experienced at working with animals who haven’t been on a commercial shoot before — which is most animals — and getting great results regardless.
Turnaround: we discuss timeline at the brief stage and commit to it. Commercial clients have deadlines that don’t move and we take that seriously.
Pricing
Commercial shoots are priced on a project basis. Pricing depends on scope, shoot duration, number of deliverables, usage rights, and whether animal or human talent needs to be sourced. We provide a clear, itemised quote before any work begins — no surprises.
If you’re a smaller pet business or startup working within a tighter budget, get in touch anyway. We’re happy to discuss what’s achievable and structure something that works for both sides.
